“You feel very close to the artists. It’s one of the many things that both the audience and the artists love about the Schimmel Center: It’s warm, it’s welcoming, it’s intimate.” – Martin Kagan, Assistant Vice President, Cultural Affairs

Schimmel Center is a hidden gem, a performing arts center for everyone. As the principal setting for performing arts at Pace University’s Downtown New York City campus, we serve both the Pace University community as well as the community at large.

Located one block east of City Hall and at the foot of the Brooklyn Bridge, our 647-seat theatre is just a few blocks from the cobblestoned “Theatre Alley” that ran along the stage doors of some of the earliest theatres in Manhattan. The husband and wife comedy team of Anne Meara and Jerry Stiller cut the ribbon along with Michael Schimmel (our theatre’s namesake) at our original opening night in 1970.
