Following a week of exhilarating performances, Battery Dance is proud to close out the 35th Annual Battery Dance Festival with an eclectic blend of performances ranging from Classical Indian to Contemporary Dance. The program includes Kavutuvam, a solo work by Indian artist Unnath H.R., in which poetry and music come together to honor the Hindu God Subramanya. Audiences will then be treated to the cutting edge Austrian group, SEAD Company Bodhi Project with the work Fragile Matter by Paul Blackman and Christine Gouzelis. Through the exploration of the body moving through stages of battle, survival and surrender, these dancers will expose tensions and astound audiences. To round out the evening, Battery Dance will perform The Durga Project by Jonathan Hollander. Inspired by the Indian Goddess Durga, the piece, steeped in both traditions of Western and Indian dance and music, exemplifies the dualities of destruction and creation and the all-powerful force of creativity.
