The human body is the subject that appears most frequently in art. Dr. Benton examines artists’ depictions of men and women, clothed and unclothed, revealing the impact of aesthetic, social, political, religious, and personal influences.
Body Beautiful Part One explores prehistoric voluptuous Venus of Willendorf, Greek gods, Lady Godiva, and Henry VIII: Bodies minimized and maximized with corsets and codpieces.
Each lecture is followed by a catered luncheon, The Conversation Continues, hosted by the lecturer herself. The menus are specially curated to compliment the art subject discussed. The Conversation Continues Luncheon tickets are available by calling the Box Office.
2012-2013 Fullbright Senior Scholar Award winner and has presented lectures at the Metropolitan Museum of Art as well as the Smithsonian Institution in Washington DC. She has published seven books to date as well as articles in numerous periodicals.
